A batch of powder coated components displaying the following properties is in full conformance with the requirements of BS EN 12206-1.
All of the items within a typical batch of finished components can display:
- excessive and obtrusive 'orange peel' texture
- large and obtrusive inclusions [dirt] on the surface of the finish
- pinholes, blisters and craters [not usually visible from 3 or 5 metres]
- any other type of surface defect [reciprocation banding, fish eyes]
- significant and obtrusive colour variations due to opacity effects
- any degree of variation of specular gloss on metallic finishes
- low film thickness 'close' to an internal corner, hole or edge
Additionally,
- 10% of a typical batch can have film thickness significantly below 40µm
- the method to determine the standard of cure is not reliable
- the powder may have reduced durability in respect of colour stability
Batches of finished components with these properties cannot reasonably be classified as falling within the legal definition of 'fitness for purpose'.
